Scottish Gaelic: traditional name, originally a borrowing of the Old Norse personal name Ásketill, composed of the elements fás god + ketill sacrificial cauldron. This name is in use among the MacAskills in the Isle of Berneray, whose surname derives from a patronymic form of the same name. It is sometimes Anglicized as Taskill.
